I'm doing twirls and spins because I am so excited. Why am I excited? Because for the first time in, oh, probably 15 years I don't have a $500+ monthly payment to make. First it was daycare (that one was more like $1k+), then the car, then Sid's trip to Spain. I was looking at 2 more months of payments but the itinerary changed* and the group status changed so in the end the trip cost us almost $1500 less than the original amount. So yes! The trip is paid in full. This means that my credit card debt should be paid off in a few months. Then what?
Oh, I should fix my car. I think I forgot how to drive.
And get carpet for the basement office.
And buy a new pair of jeans.
And pay off the huge, huge HELOC.
(Jeans first, though.)
And then open a real, honest to goodness savings account. A grownup savings account.
Or what do you think? Should I start saving for the kids' college? (See, this is why it is imperative that Sid gets a scholarship!)
*I am upset that Sid's group is no longer going to be taking the sleeper train and seeing Barcelona. The only plus (besides the money savings) is Sid has the chance to go to Africa (even if it's only the Spain occupied part of Morocco) so he's happy. Barcelona would have been nice, though. He still gets to see Seville, Granada and Toledo in addition to Madrid.

Congrats on the debt free-- It can be so invigorating.
And wow, wow, wow what an opportunity for your son!!! That is so great and what a great experience for a budding writer.
Lucky kid.
