Family history

Have I ever mentioned that I'm the 4th of 7 children? And have I ever mentioned that my husband is the 9th of 12?

Yes, we are the children of Mormons.

I thought my extended family size was pretty impressive. My dad is one of eleven (Catholics). My paternal grandmother had jillions of grandkids. Then I met Robert and wow. His mother has a bajillion grandkids. Lotsa procreating.

Oh, but they have practice. They've been doing it a long time. This brings me to Edwin Whiting. Edwin was born in 1809 in Berkshire County Massachusetts. Edwin is Robert's great great great grandfather.

Meet Edwin:

Edwin looks a little tired. Edwin looks grumpy. Could it because he had five wives?

First there was Elizabeth. Edwin married Elizabeth Partridge Tillotson in 1833 in Massachusetts.

Edwin was then baptized in the LDS church in1838 and he and his wife followed Joseph Smith west to escape persecution.

He then married Almira Mehitable Meacham in 1845. (Mehitable!?)

Not having fulfilled his destiny yet he then chose a third wife. Thank god he chose a third wife. She is Robert's great, great, great grandmother! Mary Elizabeth Cox and Edwin Whiting were married in 1846.

I think Edwin was pretty happy with his 3 wives for a while because he waited 10 years to take a fourth. Edwin married Hannah Haines Brown in 1856. A sweet 22 year old for Edwin who was then 47 years old.

Not a year later Edwin took another wife. In 1857 he married Mary Ann Washburn.

This is where the story ends. With a gajillion grandkids.

Here's the irony. I don't have any family nearby to have Thanksgiving with!

Sorry for the poor photo "scans". I took photos from a family history book with my old camera because my scanner driver doesn't work with my OS plus scanning is CUMBERSOME!
