I know it's still 2 1/2 weeks away but I'm starting to plan our Thanksgiving. I invited family but that fell through and our group of friends who we did Thanksgiving with last year will be out of town so I'm planning a meal for just the four of us. I'm actually excited because it will be such a relaxing day!
Every year I threaten to NOT make a turkey and well, this year I was threatening again but then I read this article about brining (such a fun and geeky article!) and I think I gotta make one. The year before last I wasn't very happy with my brined bird but had been all years previously so I'm going to start taking notes this year. How's that for geeky? I just can't imagine Thanksgiving without turkey and I love, LOVE, stuffing out of the bird.
I have two vegetarians in the house and I want to make sure I serve something really delicious and memorable for them to eat so I've been scouring the internet for new ideas. Several years ago I made tofurkey for Sid and it wasn't bad (despite looking kind of gross) but I think it's time to do something different. Imagine my delight when I opened up the November issue of Bon Appetit and found this recipe for Butternut Squash and Cheddar Bread Pudding (this is a link to the article because I love how Molly Wizenberg writes and love her description of a vegetarian Thanksgiving; the recipe is linked in the article). I think it will be a winner and I'll make it the centerpiece of the meal. The turkey can hide in the kitchen (the kids don't want to see it anyway). The best part is, Sid has offered to make it!
So what are your Thanksgiving plans?
