About Bitterkat

First let me explain the name BITTERKAT. All the computers in our house are named *something*KAT. When we set up a home server and needed a domain name, Robert picked BITTERKAT because he loves him some beer, especially hoppy beer. Thus the bitter. I liked the name so much and the cute little bitterkat logo he drew that I ended up picking it for my blog name as well.

So yeah. I'm not really a BITTER person. I'm quite happy.

I live in Seattle (Ballard) with my husband (Robert/Bobbert), my son (Sid/the boy), my daughter (Miss-s/the Dot/Dot/Niki), and 3 cats that create more fur than I know what to do with. (We also invite the occasional foster kitten/cat into our home because no strings attached furry love is pretty nice.)

I was born in 1969, the most awesome year ever. I'm an Aquarius and a lefty. I was born in Utah. I was raised a Mormon and I met a Mormon farm boy during my first year of college. We then fled to Asia and got married...

So the story goes...a long, long, long time ago I lived in Taiwan and THEN LATER decided to study Mandarin at The University of Washington.  One day I got a letter from the university telling me I needed to declare a major. It just so happened that was about the time I found out I was pregnant.  I looked over my credits...the majority of them were language courses  (Chinese and Thai) and psychology courses (mostly leaning towards Women's Studies...they were somehow related?). Hm. So I picked CHINESE because don't wanna be boring, right?! And now? Yes, I have a bachelor's degree in Chinese. It's quite useful for eavesdropping on people on the bus.

(Soon after declaring my major I discovered that I loved statistics and data. Oh well. I just wanted to get the heck out of college at that point. Baby was born and then I got REALLY BUSY with kids and trying to keep them fed. I suppose some people can do it all but I could not.)

So what have I been up to since then? Well, my love for data all worked out in the end. I get to play with databases and layouts and computers all day now. I won't bore you with details of my current job except to say I am an IT whore.

I like cheese.

I love BACON.

I spend much of my free time watching movies, gardening, drinking wine and cooking. Some of my favorite recipes are listed here in this blog, even!
